A funny thing happened to Tim Moore on his way to Congress | Eastern NC Now

House Speaker's gambit looks like it backfired

ENCNow

It is an open secret that House Speaker Tim Moore is bored in that role and looking for a new gig.  The Congressional redistricting committee looked out for him and created the new Congressional district that NC got from the census on Tim Moore's home turf and they made it a heavily Republican district.  But in doing so, they stripped some of the best Republican counties from the adjoining district of Congressman Madison Cawthorn, making that district far more marginal.

Now Congressman Cawthorn is sending signals that he will seek reelection in the district that Tim Moore thought was his.  Moore would not have a snowball's chance in hell in a primary with Cawthorn, so Moore's congressional dreams seem to have gone up in smoke.

And for the GOP?  Moore's schemes will have left us with a marginal congressional district as the one without an incumbent.  This, followed by Moore's Green New Deal and Obamacare Medicaid expansion gambits mean that House Republicans should not give him another term as Speaker if he decides that will be his fall back position.
