Amanda Knox Comes Out Swinging For Rittenhouse With ‘Unpopular Opinion’: ‘Radically Irresponsible’ He Was Even Charged | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Amanda Knox fiercely defended teenager Kyle Rittenhouse, who was found not guilty last month on all charges related to a fatal shooting that took place in August 2020.

    Knox, an American, was wrongful convicted and imprisoned for the murder of her roommate while studying in Italy.

    "The Kyle Rittenhouse trial, I think I have a sort of an unpopular opinion from - I run in liberal circles and I do a lot of social justice, but I do think people really wanted Kyle Rittenhouse to be a villain," Knox told host Megyn Kelly on Tuesday (see video, below).

    "A lot of people weren't willing to take the evidence of the case seriously. Instead [they] were trying to convict him based upon their interpretation of his character," she added.

    Knox asserted that it was "radically, radically irresponsible of the prosecutor to charge him with murder in the first place."

    "This was not a murder case," Knox said, adding that Rittenhouse had a right to defend himself. "If you don't like the self-defense law you can go to your legislature and say you don't believe in self-defense," she said.

    Knox also called out the "character assassination" of the teen, and noted that much of the information, false or true, was "irrelevant" to his innocence.

    "There was so much focus on irrelevant information and character assassination instead of the specific actions that led up to this tragic moment," she told Kelly. "Which isn't to say that Kyle Rittenhouse should be celebrated as a hero either because that's again playing him as a political football."

    "He's kid who made a mistake but he doesn't deserve to spend the rest of his in prison for it," she added.

    Kelly noted of the smears against Rittenhouse, specifically the false claims that he is a "white supremacist."

    "Talk about poisoning the jury pool," Kelly said. "It was a lie."

    At some point, Kelly said, you need to "show me the evidence, and if they cannot, we as a responsible society have to move on."

    "Absolutely," Knox agreed. "And also I would say that like, whether or not he [Rittenhouse] knows that he was doing an okay sign or a white supremacist sign is ultimately irrelevant. In the same way that like if I were a professional dominatrix at the time that Meredith was murdered, it also would not have made a difference. It's irrelevant to the question of whether or not he's guilty of murder."

    Weeks ago, Rittenhouse was acquitted by a jury on all charges against him related to a deadly riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Appearing in a teaser clip for a documentary from Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Rittenhouse said the jury "reached the right verdict."

    "Self-defense is not illegal, and I believe they came to the correct verdict, and I'm glad that everything went well. ... It's been a rough journey, but we made it through it," the 18-year-old said. "We made it through the hard part."
