CA ''independent'' redistricting body caught cheating | Eastern NC Now

Some are always ballyhooing "independent redistricting commissions" but one of the oldest, that in California, is again showing how such commissions can be more corrupt and partisan than having elected legislators do it.  The independent redistricting commission in California has just been caught holding illegal secret meetings to decide key redistricting issues, many revolving around racial issues.

This is not the first strike for the California commission.  In its first redistricting effort, it hired an ultra-partisan Democrat firm as its staff, and as would be expected they helped craft a partisan Democrat map, more blatant than Democrat legislators would probably have dared.

Arizona's last maps were corrupted by a rabid supporter of the far left wing of the Democrats being placed in the swing "independent" slot, skewing the commission to the Democrats.  That is being repeated in Michigan this year, where several of the "self identified independents" selected for the commission have turned out to very active supporters of candidates of the left wing of the Democrat Party.

These systems are very corruptible and NC is wise NOT to use them.
