How the GOP could block a bad SCOTUS nominee | Eastern NC Now

but would McConnell do it?

ENCNow

If Republicans hang together, a big "if" they have the power to stop a bad Supreme Court nominee from being confirmed.  Because the power sharing agreement in the Senate gives Democrats and Republicans equal numbers on the Judiciary Committee, they could bottle up the nominee there indefinitely.  Sure there is a procedure to get the issue out of the committee, but the problem for the Democrats is that the process takes a 60 vote threshold.
