A video of children in Nevada erupting into cheers after learning that they would no longer have to wear masks went viral on Thursday after the state's Democrat governor finally ended his mask mandate as backlash continues to build against coronavirus restrictions in Democrat-controlled states.

Courtney Holland, Vice Chair & National Committeewoman for Nevada Young Republicans, posted the now-viral video on online where it was viewed millions of times in a matter of hours.

"Stop what you're doing and watch this," she wrote. "Kids at a Las Vegas elementary school burst out into cheers after learning they no longer have to wear a mask to school."

HotAir noted that the move by Democrat Governor Steve Sisolak comes as he faces re-election this fall with the party's leader, President Joe Biden, struggling across the country with low-approval ratings. Biden won Nevada by less than three points.

Sisolak's office said in a statement:

Masks will no longer be required in public places, but there are locations where Nevadans and visitors may still be asked to wear a mask.

Masks and protective equipment requirements in facilities serving vulnerable populations - like hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities - will be overseen at the direction of the Department of Health and Human Services. The safety of health care staff and patients remain the top priority.

Also, federally, masks are still mandated in airports, on planes and on public buses and school buses.

Teachers and schools will no longer be required to wear masks, but school districts will need to work with their local health authorities to have plans in place to manage and respond to outbreaks. Masks will stay on through the school day today, so families can have a conversation together.

"The State will no longer require masks in public places," Sisolak said, "but employers and organizations, including school districts, may set their own policies, and I encourage them to work with their employees and communities to ensure that policies are in place."

"I think that students and parents have been clamoring for this for a long time," Sisolak later said. "Our businesses have been asking for this, our population has."
