Putin issues threat to Sweden and Finland | Eastern North Carolina Now

Putin is making threats beyond Ukraine.  He has issued one to Sweden and Finland, threatening "military and economic consequences" if they join NATO.  Finland fought a war with the Soviet Union in 1939-1940 in which the outnumbered Finns under Baron von Mannerheim conducted a robust defense that cost many Soviet lives.  One of his inventions was the Molotov cocktail.  Ultimately, Finland had to cede territory to the Soviet Union to get a peace treaty. It has followed neighbor Sweden's long history of trying to be a neutral country other than that war in which they were attacked by the Soviet Union.
