Ukraine sinks large Russian warship and counterattacks near Kyiv | Eastern NC Now

Ukraine has announced that it has hit and sunk the Russian tank landing ship Orsk, full of armored vehicles and ammunition at the occupied Sea of Azov port of Berdansk. Videos showed the ship on fire after the attack with multiple secondary explosions, and later lying on its side sunk.  While the Ukrainian navy made the announcements, analysts said the attack was most likely carried out by Ukraine's Turkish-made drones.  The whereabouts of the ship had been revealed in a propaganda video on Russian TV and Ukraine used that information to attack and sink it.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian counterattacks recaptured a key town that reopens a major corridor between Kyiv and the rest of the country.  Other counterattacks succeeded in almost encircling one of the Russian forces that has been attacking Kyiv.

One of Ukraine's latest foreign volunteers is 23 year old former Italian fighter pilot Giulia Schiff.  Ranked 4th among 2,000 applicants to Italy's air force academy, Schiff left the air force after her public complaints about brutal hazing of new officers.  She had been in Kyiv since the war started filming a documentary but has now joined Ukraine's special forces to take an active part in the country's defense.
