Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) slammed Democrat President Joe Biden in a statement Tuesday over his mental fitness for office - an attack that the president quickly showed was a legitimate concern.

Biden attacked Scott last week for criticizing the administration's economic plans, adding that supporters of former President Donald Trump's policies were "the most extreme political organization that's existed" in recent American history.

"Senator Rick Scott of Florida ... released what he calls the ultra-MAGA agenda. It's a MAGA agenda all right," Biden claimed. "Let me tell you about this ultra-MAGA agenda. It's extreme, as most MAGA things are."

Ahead of Biden's remarks on Tuesday, Scott released a statement slamming Biden's mental fitness for office, saying that he should resign.

"Let's be honest here. Joe Biden is unwell. He's unfit for office. He's incoherent, incapacitated and confused. He doesn't know where he is half the time. He's incapable of leading and he's incapable of carrying out his duties. Period," Scott said. "Everyone knows it. No one is willing to say it. But we have to, for the sake of the country. Joe Biden can't do the job."

Scott said that if Biden wanted to solve the inflation crisis that has unfolded during his administration, the "quick and easy solution" is to have Biden resign.

Scott included a tweet in his statement from Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler that pointed out that Biden's speech was centered around blatant false claims attacking Republicans.

Shortly after Scott released his statement, Biden attacked him during his speech and forgot what state Scott represents in the U.S. Senate.

"Senator Rick Scott of Wisconsin, a member of the Senate Republican leadership, laid it all out in a plan," Biden said. "It's the Ultra-MAGA agenda."

Biden was later asked by a reporter during the press conference about Scott's comments.

"You called out Rick Scott a little while ago in your remarks," the reporter said. "Earlier today, anticipating your remarks, he said - and I'm just quoting here - that the best thing - 'the most effective thing Joe Biden can do to solve the inflation crisis he created is resign. He's the problem.'"

"Resign?" Biden responded. "That's a good idea."

"The senator added later, 'Joe Biden is unwell. He's unfit for office. He's incoherent, incapacitated, and confused,'" the reporter continued. "These are his words. I'm offering you a chance to respond to that."

"I think the man has a problem," Biden said.

Scott responded to Biden's remarks on Twitter, saying that Biden was "right" that he has "a problem."

"@JoeBiden is right. I do have a problem," Scott said. "I have a problem with a weak, incoherent & confused president crushing the dreams of American families with raging inflation & doing NOTHING to fix it. Biden is a failed president & it's time for him to resign."
