Tandy Dunn expands lead slightly in count of absentee and provisional ballots | Eastern NC Now

Full recount set for Tuesday

ENCNow

The Beaufort County Board of Elections has counted provisional ballots and those absentees that arrived after election day and there was no change in the election outcome.  Commission candidate Tandy Dunn expanded his lead by a net one vote over Dawn Slann.  Dunn now leads overall by 5 votes over Slann.

Among absentee votes,  Stan Deatherage received 3 votes, Tandy Dunn 2, Frankie Waters 1, and Dawn Slann 0.   Among the provisional ballots that were counted, Deatherage received 3 votes, Frankie Waters 3 votes, Dawn Slann 2 votes, and Tandy Dunn 1 vote.  A number of provisional ballots were unanimously rejected by the Board and not counted.

Dawn Slann has asked for a full recount, and the Board scheduled that for 3PM next Tuesday.  Given the counting accuracy of the new machines, one board member offered a bet that the numbers would not change at all in the recount, and no other board member took him up on it.

The Board of Elections conducted its canvas of precinct returns today, rechecking all the numbers to make sure they were reported and added up correctly on election night. The canvas confirmed the numbers in the county commission race that Tandy Dunn beat Dawn Slade by 5 votes. The recount of the commissioner primary on the Republican side will be 3:00 PM Tuesday and the result will be certified at 5:00 PM Tuesday.

To elect a conservative county commission majority, we need to elect both Tandy Dunn and Stan Deatherage. Waters and Booth are two peas in a left wing pod, and we need to defeat one of them in the general election.

The provisional ballots were your big hurdle to overcome, and it is behind you.

Hood and I wish you were on the board right now as the Democratic Socialists and the Nominal Republicans - the majority - are beginning to close ranks yet again.

Five votes is not a big lead but it gets me on the ballot in November. I appreciate everyone that voted for me and ask for your continued support.

Beaufort County taxpayers need a break. With continued increases in fuel prices our other basic commodities like food will rise in costs. We need to do everything we can to stop wasteful spending and put money back in the pockets of our citizens.

I would be more than happy to speak to anyone about what can be done to cut our taxes while still providing essential services to the county. Spend money on what we need and not what we want.

I will support our newly elected Sheriff and work to return our deputies to the schools and the court house. I will also work with the school systems to ensure parents have a say in their children’s education.

Again, thank you for your support.

Thanks CT. This is the way I see it.

From a political point of view, since there is only one declared Democrat (Ed Booth) in the race, with Republican interloper Frankie Waters representing big inflationary government, I see there being a rush by those two to pick up the Leftist /Liberal vote from the Democrats and the Left-leaning Independents.

My advice to the Left-leaning electorate is: Every time you pay far more for products you must have to survive, and these prices keep rising without reason, just know that it is the heavy handed Authoritarians, who only know big government that put you and your family this untenable position. And still, if you must vote and support only politicians, like political allies Ed Booth and Frankie Waters, then be careful who you complain to when your world crumbles around you.

If you are a center-right Democrat or Independent, who has had enough of the endless lies and stupidity of feckless politicians, who love their office far too much, then you are welcome in the Stan Deatherage camp of Conservative ideals. I do not love my office in any way as much as I cherish my practicable desire for far smaller, and unmistakably honest government that has but one directive: To serve the public by honoring OUR constitutional responsibility to do so in a manner set forth by our Founders for that true representative government of ALL the People all the time.

True representative government cannot be accomplished by endeavoring to be all things to all people; it can only be mastered by being honest with all the people all the time. In my nearly 22 years of serving as a Beaufort County Commissioner, I know I can at least claim honesty as my small piece of what is truly real in our shared constituency.

Great news! Tandy and Stan are both solid friends of the taxpayer, while Frankie Waters is a big spender and Slann won't tell us where she stands. Stan Deatherage has made motions this year to cut taxes and Frankie Waters consistently votes against them. Frankie wants to drown us in taxes. We taxpayers can figure out easy enough who our friends are, as well as our enemies. We need to work hard to elect Stan and Tandy in November to get a pro-taxpayer majority on the county commission. Go Tandy!

Thanks for the update.

I just whispered the news into Hood's ear.
