Ukraine counterattack in south begins in earnest | Eastern North Carolina Now | 20,000 Russian troops in danger of being cut off as commanders flee

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

In a bid to recapture the only regional capital lost to Russia, Kherson, Ukrainian forces have begun a widely expected counteroffensive in the south.   All three bridges across the Dnipro River have been destroyed, leaving 20,000 Russian troops on the west bank with no effective supply line or line of retreat.  Russia command posts have been pulled back to the east side of the river, abandoning the rank and file troops on the west bank with dwindling ammunition and food.  Ukrainian advances are pushing back the Russian front lines in several sectors on the front as Ukraine strives to recapture Kherson before winter sets in.

Meanwhile, another apparent commando raid by Ukrainian special forces has destroyed a Russian supply dump in Crimea. This comes a week after another commando raid hit a Russian air base deep inside Crimea which destroyed multiple warplanes and ammunition supplies.
