small "c" Conservative new leader of Canadian Party | Eastern North Carolina Now | Pollievre marched with truckers' Freedom Convoy and wins landslide

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

The new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada is a firebrand small "c" Conservative.  Pierre Pollievre, who won the ballot for party leader by over 50 points in a four way race, has made his mark in parliament as a member who pushes hard for the conservative agenda.  During the truckers' Freedom Convoy, Pollievre openly marched with the truckers in Ottawa, telling the media "I'm proud of the truckers".  The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation called him "a talented politician, an ideologically motivated conservative, and an aggressive populist."

Issues Pollievre ran on included cutting taxes, reducing the size of government, removing government funding from the media, and banning government officials from attending World Economic Forum functions.  He has been a member of parliament since 2004 representing a constituency in Ontario, and served in former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper's cabinet.
