Jennifer Legett Whitehurst resigns as Register of Deeds | Eastern NC Now

Resignation effective December 31. GOP Executive Committee to fill the vacancy.

ENCNow

Jennifer Leggett Whitehurst, Register of Deeds in Beaufort County for nearly 20 years has resigned, effective December 31, 2022.  She stated that her resignation before the end of her term is “due to declining health of several loved ones…”

The Beaufort County Republican Executive Committee will make a nomination to the County Commission, which is bound by law to accept the nomination if the nominee meets the legal requirements to serve in the office.  The appointment is until December 2024 following the election in November to fill the vacancy for a full four-year term.

Any Republican interested in the interim appointment should contact Carolyn Garris, Chair of the Executive Committee.  The Committee has 30 days to submit a nominee once the vacancy occurs (presumably December 31).
