    Ethel Bagby Covington Bruce, age 90, of Washington, North Carolina ended her earthly life and went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 24, 2013.

    She was a former resident of Farmville, Virginia. A celebration of her life was held January 27, 2013 at Sharon Baptist Church with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice, Virginia. The family received friends on January 26 at the funeral home.

    Ethel was born to the late Floyd Lee and Lillian Bagby Covington on October 4, 1922. She was the widow of Thomas Clark Bruce. In addition to her parents and husband, her brother William Covington and son-in-law, Bobbie Gowin, preceded her in death.

    She graduated from Worsham High School and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and Savior, her friends and family. Her legacy lives on in her two daughters, Jessie Paciocco (Robert) of Washington, N.C., Ruth Gowin and close friend, John Orozco of Farmville, Va; two sons, Thomas Bruce (Gaye) of Snellville, Ga. and William Bruce (Carla) of Goode, Va.; sister, Marguerite Coates, of Midlothian, Va.; two nieces and one nephew and their families; and her grandchildren, Stephanie Meghan and Clark Leonard Bruce who loved their "Granny B". She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

    The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Antonio Thigpen, her doctors, the staff of Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center and the staff of United Hospice, of New Bern for their loving care.
