Free Speech Win: Med School Admin Overrides Student Gov To Allow ‘Students For Life’ Club On Campus | Eastern North Carolina Now

Supposed future doctors at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine are furious that some of their classmates believe that the Hippocratic Oath's line "do no harm" should apply from the moment of conception until natural death.

Well, too bad for those anti-life pupils because administrators at that medical school recently overturned a student government's decision that would have banned the pro-life group "Midwestern Medical Students For Life" from campus.

"The University and College administration met with students on both sides of this issue, explaining the guidelines and sharing their reasons for the decision to approve this new club, while assuring the students that all medical information is monitored by faculty," the school told MedPageToday. "Both the Dean of Students and the Dean of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine are in support of this decision, along with the University President."

However, not all students agree with that diplomatic response.

"It's kind of worrisome to be endorsing [Medical Students for Life] on a medical school campus," medical school student government vice president, Alec, told another media outlet.

It is "dangerous" to have this group on campus, according to students who oppose the club, which is part of the popular national "Students for Life" organization.

"Midwestern University Medical Students for Life disseminates blatant medical misinformation and encourages violent and obstructive behavior towards clinics and providers," a Midwestern student name Sarah told the media outlet Ms. Magazine.

As for evidence of misinformation, the students claimed that Medical Students for Life advocating "Abortion Pill Reversal" makes it dangerous. They argued that it is not possible to stop a chemical abortion, but the data doesn't prove that, according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute.

Another student said that denying somebody an abortion is a "violation of human rights."

Of course, what these students neglect to recognize is that when dealing with a pregnant woman - there are two patients: the mother and the child in the womb. Scientific data has proven that life starts at conception.

However, rather than debate facts about these issues, these students want to shut down any debate on campus. That totalitarianism is now commonplace in American society and isn't new to higher education. As readers know, it's now a core part of the Biden White House strategy for dealing with free speech via Big Tech.

What makes this story particularly worrisome is that these are the future doctors of America. If their attitude in college is to not look at all available data, while being arrogant know-it-alls who silence anybody who goes against the status quo or touts politically inconvenient truths, then the American medical establishment is doomed - which is bad news for the patients.

After seeing those same sorts of tactics from doctors and medical bureaucrats who wanted to silence COVID lockdown and vaccine skeptics, we shouldn't be surprised.

For its part, the school's administration deserves credit for upholding once common values in America such as diversity of thought and free speech.
