Constitutional Law expert: Trump indictment damages America | Eastern NC Now

Alan Dershowitz says it may be body blow to our republic

One of America's top experts on Constitutional Law, retired Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz fears for the future of America after the indictment of President Trump by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who had called convicting Trump the "number one issue" when he ran for the office.  Dershowitz, who was a supporter of and contributor to Hillary Clinton, has written an analysis for the UK's largest circulation daily newspaper, the Daily Mail of London which was published today:

Dershowitz says the indictment is "laughably flawed" and "a body blow to American justice".  He says the only actual crime revealed by Bragg's investigation was Stormy Daniels' extortion of Trump.  "This is a perversion of justice, and if Trump is convicted a travesty of justice", Dershowitz wrote. noting that while it would certainly be reversed on appeal, the judge pool and the jury pool in Manhatten make it almost impossible for Trump to get a fair trial there. "I don't know if the American justice system can come back from this." he warned.

"Americans everywhere now have cause for concern, because today it is Trump but tomorrow it could be you" Dershowitz concluded.

In a related move, a key official of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) says the Trump-Stormy situation is NOT an election law violation. FEC Commissioner James Trainor said that the FEC had already investigated the matter and "it is not a campaign finance violation,  It is not a reporting violation of any kind."

Alan Dershowitz is one of the smartest legal brains in the country, especially on Constitutional matters. He may be a liberal and a Democrat, but he calls them the way he sees them and his demolition of Bragg's nakedly political stunt is devastating. It is well worth the read.
