Texas Senate passes bill against child genital mutilation, and child drag shows | Eastern NC Now

expected to pass House and be signed by governor

ENCNow

The Texas Senate has passed a series of bills to protect children from sexualization and from child genital mutilation.  The package of bills was a priority of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and passed by wide marings.  They now go to the House, which is expected to pass them, and Governor Abbott who is expected to sign them into law.

SB 14, sponsored by Sen. Donna Campbell, a medical doctor, prohibits child genital mutilation surgery or drug regimens to change gender, and provides for revocation of doctors' medical licenses if they violate the law.

SB12 bans drag shows on public property, in businesses, or in front of children.

SB1601 prohibits public libraries which host a drag queen story hour from receiving state funds.
