New candidates enter GOP statewide primaries | Eastern NC Now

Governor and Council of State will see primary competition between conservatives and RINOs

ENCNow

Republican primaries are getting crowded as more competition enters the races for statewide offices in 2024, creating competitive races for governor and many Council of State seats.

For governor, Mark Walker, a moderately conservative ex-Congressman who was an ally of John Boehner after running saying he was going to oppose Boehner, and also a failed 2022 Senate candidate, has entered the race.  He faces staunch conservative State Treasurer Dale Folwell and Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, whose fiery conservative speeches have thrilled conservatives but who some fear is now being coopted by RINO Senate President pro tem Phil Berger.  There is concern that uber RINO Thom Tillis is also eying this race.

We now have a primary for State Auditor as  Guilford County Commissioner James Upchurch has announced for that position against RINO State Rep. John Bradford, who was Tillis' personal choice to succeed him in his old State House seat.

Phil Berger has put one of his cronies, Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page, into the Lieutenant Governor's primary.  Already announced are Hal Weatherman, longtime top aide to former Lt. Governor Dan Forest, conservative State Rep. Jeff Elmore, and Rev. Allen Mashburn, another strong conservative.
