Too hot for solar panels to work well, so UK fires up the coal plants | Eastern North Carolina Now

Add another to the many conditions that cause solar panels that are supposed to produce electricity not to work or work efficiently, and that is heat.  You know, hot days, like the ones where there is high demand for electricity for air conditioning.  That is the very time that solar energy, and often wind energy as well, crap out.

The UK just had this happen during a heat wave.  The heat made the solar panels fail to work efficiently, and there was little wind to turn the wind turbines.  So they fired their coal plants back up to keep the grid providing electricity.  It is a good thing they still had them handy, as in many places the greenies insist on tearing them down.

This is a real lesson for North Carolina, whose far left Green New Deal, HB951 seeks to eliminate our coal plants and replace them with primarily solar farms and some wind farms.  This corrupt scheme rammed through by liberal RINO legislative leaders Phil Berger and Tim Moore, doing the dirty work of the solar and wind rent seekers and the ultra "woke" Duke Energy, has already cost us one perfectly functional coal plant and the rest of them have a bullseye on them by 2030.  We should also never forget that our own RINO state senator Jim Perry was one of the leaders in screwing us on energy security and price.  Maybe he thought that would get him a date with Greta Thunberg.

The times that wind speed are most prone to fall off and not turn wind turbines are particularly hot and cold periods, when electricity is most needed.  The times when there is lots of wind and wind turbines tend to overproduce is springtime when there is only modest demand for electricity.  Additionally, as Europe has demonstrated, there are sometimes months long "wind droughts" when there is little wind available to turn wind turbines.

With solar there are lots of things that cause electricity production to fall off substantially or cease all together, like nighttime, clouds, snow, frost, dew, and fog.

Basing our electricity supply on wind and solar is building on quicksand, but that is exactly what Phil Berger, Tim Moore, and Jim Perry have done for North Carolina.
