Electric vehicle fees to help pay for road maintenance in Texas - What about NC? | Eastern NC Now

electric vehicles are much heavier than conventional cars and wear out roads more

ENCNow

What is North Carolina doing to make electric vehcile owners pay their fair share for road maintenance and construction?  Texas is moving to make them pay, as they should.

Most states use fuel taxes to generate funds for highway maintenance and construction, but electric vehicles do not use those fuels and so do not pay fuel tax, which is highly unfair. That is expecially so given that electric vehicles are much heavier than conventional cars, and therefore wear our roads quicker.

Texas has now set a new vehicle registration fee that is eight times higher for an electric vehicle than a conventional vehicle for new registrations and imposed a one-time $200 fee on electric vehciles already registered in the state.

These electric car deadbeats need to pay.  What is NC doing?
