Mrs. Betty Irene Brown Woolard, age 85, a resident of 5238 U.S. Hwy 264 West, the Wharton Station community, Washington, died Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

   Mrs. Betty Irene Brown Woolard, age 85, a resident of 5238 U.S. Hwy 264 West, the Wharton Station community, Washington, died Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

   Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen.

   The following will serve as pallbearers: Neil Woolard, Jr., Kevin McRoy, Garyn Mizelle, Frank Sheldon, J. A. Jackson and Stephen Braddy.

   Mrs. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on September 20, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Manuel Brown, Sr. and Emily Ethel Tetterton Brown. Mrs. Woolard graduated from Washington High School. She was a teacher's assistant for over 30 years at P.S. Jones Junior High School and Eastern Elementary School. Mrs. Woolard was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ, a former board member of the Roanoke Christian Service Camp and the Woodmen of the World.

   On June 30, 1949, she married Ward Marshall Woolard, who preceded her in death May 19, 1997.

   Survivors include her two sons, Neil Woolard and his wife, Wanda of Washington, Al Woolard of Washington; her sister, Margie B. Gardner of Washington; and her grandchildren, Neil Woolard, Jr. and his wife, Crystal and their son, Clayton, Meredith Woolard and her fiancé, Garyn Mizelle; Natalie McRoy and her husband, Kevin all of Washington.

   In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Woolard was preceded in death by her three brothers, Manuel Brown, Ed Brown and J.R. Brown and her sister, Allie Myrtle Brown.

   The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of her son, Neil Woolard, 600 Fairview Avenue, Washington Park, Washington.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, P.O. Box 8489, Greenville, N.C. 27835-8489.
