News Release:

    Good Morning Everyone,

This morning's update continues to trend towards a strengthening storm system for our area Sunday and Monday. Changes in the latest forecast included another increase in expected sustained winds and wind gust (Gust were elevated from 30 to 35+) as well as a moderate to major flooding hazard for areas along our waterways.

Please see the email below and attached briefing from the National Weather Service (NWS) for more information. We will be participating in a conference call with the NWS at 11 am and will be providing additional details pertaining to our local forecast shortly after.

In the meantime, please help us share the following information throughout our communities. So far, this weather system is presenting with forecast details that are very similar to what we experienced during Ophelia last September. Anyone who experienced flooding impacts from Ophelia should begin to take appropriate preparation efforts now.

As always, thank you all for what you do to keep Beaufort County informed, prepared and safe.

    Good Morning,

There is high confidence that a strong low will impact the area this weekend into early next week, with impacts beginning to come into better focus. Strong winds and the potential for moderate to major coastal flooding are the primary concerns, with very dangerous marine conditions expected and localized rainfall flooding issues possible as well.

Please see the attached briefing for the latest impact expectations. In particular, please see slide 7 for our latest forecast of areas that will receive greatest impacts from coastal flooding.

Additionally, we will email out another mulit-slide briefing this afternoon as impact details continue to be ironed out. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.
