Czechs reject gay marriage while Greece approves, Orthodox Church reacts | Eastern NC Now

Church has threatened to excommunicate over issue, and now it has done it

ENCNow

The Orthodox Church has long stated that same sex "marriage" was blasphemy and threatened to excommunicate any elected officials that voted for it.  That has been the case in all Orthodox countries.  Now the Greek parliament has  approved same sex "marriage", the only Orthodox country to do so and the Orthodox Church has responded as it has said it would by excommunicating the majority of parliament that voted for the law.  That resulted in 176 members of the 300 member parliament being excommunicated. The church are demanding its repeal.

in Romania, the Orthodox Church has gone even farther and threatened to excommunicate any member of parliament who votes for same sex civil unions.

Meanwhile, the tradional conservative Civic Democrats together with the Christian Democrats blocked a same sex marriage bill in the Czech Republic.
