Child Abuse Accused by Beaufort County Department of Social Services | Eastern North Carolina Now

For Immediate Release:

    On February 8, 2013 at approximately 8:00 am, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Beaufort County Department of Social Services of possible Child Abuse at a residence on Terrapin Track Road in Washington, NC. Deputies collected information and began an investigation. During the investigation, information was collected about sex offenses involving juveniles that had visited the Terrapin Track Road residence. The sex offenses occurred at a residence on Lodge Road in Washington. ]

    As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator Jim Adams applied for and obtained warrants charging Sandie Lea Bland, age 36, of Terrapin Track Road in Washington with two counts of Sexual Servitude of a Child, one count of Overage Person Aid/Abet Sale of Alcohol, one count of Sell or Deliver Controlled Substance to a Minor, one count of Sell or Distribute Tobacco Product to a Minor and one count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Adams also obtained a warrant charging John Durrin Baker, age 73, of Lodge Road in Washington with two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.     Baker turned himself in at the Beaufort County Magistrate’s Office on July 2, 2013 and was taken before Magistrate Eric Holmes. Baker was placed under a $50,000.00 secured bond and released after posting bond. Bland turned herself in at the Magistrate’s Office on July 13th and was taken before Magistrate Donald Sadler. Bland was released after posting a $12,000.00 secured bond.
