On Sunday, September 21, 2025 at approximately 1900 hours, Washington Police Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street in reference to a possible shooting in progress.

    On Sunday, September 21, 2025 at approximately 1900 hours, Washington Police Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street in reference to a possible shooting in progress. Upon arrival it was determined two vehicles, a dark passenger vehicle and an SUV had fled the area. A short time after the shooting an Washington Police Department officer observed a vehicle matching the a description of the gray passenger vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

    The vehicle was determined to be the same vehicle involved in the shooting incident and two subjects were taken into custody. One subject was found to have been injured in the exchange of gunfire. The injured party, Shakur Warren, was transported to ECU Health Beaufort where he was treated and released.

    Approximately 20 minutes after the event ECU Health Beaufort advised Washington Police Department of a gunshot victim in the Emergency Department. Jamarion Windley, age 21, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Windley is currently at ECU Medical Center, Greenville. He was last reported to be in stable condition. Windley was transported to ECU Beaufort by private vehicle.

    After the initial call for service Washington Police Detectives responded and began assisting. Based on the investigation last night the following subjects have been charged with Assault with a Deadly With the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. Both subjects are being held without bond. This is an on-going investigation and more arrests are expected.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.
On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.

On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:
Today I officially filed for re-election, seeking to continue my service to the citizens of Beaufort County.
On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.
