The world's oldest news magazine has declared that the big loser in the Trump-Harris presidential debate was ABC News. The Spectator, published in the UK since 1828 cited the flagrant bias of ABC News' "immoderators" for the assessment. They join several other major British publications that have given similar opinions. While it was hard to decide a winner between the two candidates, their assessment was that ABC News was the clear loser.
Their article began "The main takeaway from the ABC News ambush - er, presidential debate last night? That someone should sue the network for creating a hostile workplace environment.". It concluded that "the performance of Muir and (esecially) Davis demonstrated once and for all that ABC is just a partisan propaganda machine in the pocket of the anti-Trump lobby. It was a shameful performance on the part of that cratering network."

Meanwhile, the co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates called the ABC moderators "the worst I have ever seen". That commission has a long history of biased moderators itself, so these were particularly bad. Frank Fahrenkopf observed that the ABC moderators "bent backwards to help Harris."
Then, of course, there is the epic takedown of the extremely biased ABC moderators by national news veteran and former presidential debate moderator herself Megyn Kelly:

The American people were also big losers in that debate because the manipulations of ABC News deprived us of a fair and honest debate. Shame on them.

Debate moderators should never jump into the debate as participants and both of these ABC goons did so. Indeed, giving them control of the questions is a very bad idea. ABC should NEVER be allowed to hold a presidential debate again. Megyn Kelly sure got this one right as to their disgusting performance. Kamaa Harris spewed out lie after lie and they said nothing, but they quibbled over opinions with Trump.

Political bias to the left has been rampant in the media for decades, but the open rise of "advocacy journalism" in recent years has meant the mask of objectivity has increasingly fallen off. The media is a horrible place to find comeone who should be neutral in a debate setting.
The sad thing is that RNC was working to straighten this problem out but then dropped the ball, allowing the worst manipulation of debates in US presidential election history. The Commission on Presidential Debates has had a history of choosing biased moderators, although not as bad as the ABC News duo, so at Chairman McDaniels initiative the Republican National Committee withdrew from the Commission debates to negotiate debates directly with the Democrats. Her successor, Michael Whatley, then dropped the ball and did not start begotiations. This allowed the Biden camp to put forward their debate plan directly to Trump while Trump was tied up with the Stalin Show Trial in Manhattan and thus had little room to manuever. That allowed the Democrats to, in effect, set the rules. If Michael Whatley had had the competence to follow through on what McDaniel started, we would never have had that ultra-early debate that set up the Democrat coup against Biden, and the Trump - Biden debate would have been what occured Tuesday, too late for the Democrats to oust Biden as nominee. And we certainly would not have had partisan hack moderators like we had Tuesday. |
