Proposing an idea that America should also consider, France's Interior Minister has called for ending government medical assistance to migrants.  That would both end a big financial burden on taxpayers and end one of the "pull factors" that encourage people to enter illegally.  Indeed, he has suggested the policy should be ended throughout Europe.

The minister observed that providing free medical care to anyone who had been on French soil for at least three months is costing taxpayers billions of euros every year. He said he wanted "to take all possible means to reduce immigration to France."

US law requires hospital emergency rooms to treat anyone who comes through the door, so illegal aliens have discovered it is their path to free medical care, because they freeload and just do not pay.  Those costs are then transfered to the bills of paying patients, including their insurers.  This drives up the cost of medical care for Americans as well as the cost of our medical insurance.

Florida has had a new law in effect for over a year that requires emergency rooms to record all the imformation on emergency room patients including immigration status.  Since that law has been in effect, freeloading at emergency rooms by illegal aliens has dropped dramatically.  Texas is expected to enact similar legislation.
