Another poll finds Ameicans support ending citizenship by birth alone | Eastern NC Now

Emerson College poll concurs with Daily Mail poll

ENCNow

Another poll has asked Americans about their opinion on ending "birthright citizenship" where birth on American soil alone, regardless of parentage confers citizenship.  Like the first poll, it also found Americans support ending that policy by a wide margin.

This poll was conducted by Emerson College and found Americans support ending birthright citizenship by an 8 point margin, with 45% in favor and 37% against ending it.   Those numbers are close to the first poll conducted earlier this month by the Daily Mail of London among American voters.  They also match a similar poll last November by the major British newsmagazine The Economist.

Most countries in the world base citizenship on the nationality of the parents, not the place the child happens to be born.
