US must defend free speech by blocking EU's Digital Iron Curtain of global censorship | Eastern NC Now

totalitarian moves by EU threaten free speech worldwide

ENCNow

The EU (European Union) ought to change its name to the EUSSR after the old Soviet Union, because it is trying to trample free speech the same way the old soviet communists used to. But unlike the USSR, the new EUSSR wants to censor the entire world by suppressing free speech on the internet, bending US Big Tech companies to their highly restrictive rules.  The EU demands that US Big Tech companies censor content and modify algorithims to meet their damands, impacting Big Tech's customers worldwide.

The EU has adopted legislation, the Digital Services Act and the Digital Marketing Act, to control the internet.  They have made draconian demands on Big Tech companies and threatened massive fines if they do not comply.

Looking at censorship of speech the EU is imposing on its own citizens is an indicator of where they https://ojs.njhsciences.com/ want to take the internet.  In Poland, a Catholic priest has been criminally convicted for calling the country's globalist prime minister a "traitor" in a sermon.  In France, a French senator has been prosecuted for posting "immigration kills" after a brutal rape and murder of a French girl by an illegal alien.  In Germany, a pensioner has been criminally convicted for a post calling the country's hapless former Finance Minister an "iditot".  In FInland, a member of parliament and former Cabinet Minister has been vigorously prosecuted for posting a Bible verse online.  Spain's Socialist government is cracking down on anyone objecting to mass migration of illegal aliens.  In France, a woman was arrested for posting online that French Macron is "a piece of filth".

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken the first step in fighting back by announcing that he would be blocking visas for foreign citizens who promote censorship and want to come to the US.  But most Europeans do not have to have visas to visit, and something more is obviously needed there.  Rubio has an easy tool.  Such persons could be declared persona non grata in the US and denied entry on that basis.  That should immediately be imposed on all identified leaders of pro-censorship private organizations, with a warning that if governments go down that road, their officials will get the same treatment.

There needs to be immediate pushback on the EU's threats of fines on Big Tech, perhaps of counterfines by the US against the EU itself.  Maybe we need tariff threats to counteract any such action.  Perhaps we need to say we will indict foreign leaders under our federal criminal statute prohibiting conspiring against the civil rights of Americans.

The censorship monster is rearing its ugly head and a stake needs to be driven through its heart.
