What They Are Not Telling You About That School Bus Caper

EDITORIAL TEAM

Often a narrative will go out which is built off of selective facts that do not fully represent what actually happened. Such a narrative has gone out recently regarding a school bus and a Beaufort County Board of Education member, but the narrative created by the school system’s central office omits key details and fudges others. One has to look at all the facts to make a judgment on this event.

The key figure in this drama is Board of Education member Stacey Davis. On Friday September 12, Ms. Davis learned that a student riding on a particular school bus was in possession of items taken from one of her children. She attempted to call county school Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman to deal with the matter, but he did not pick up his phone.

Unable to reach Cheeseman and knowing the property would likely disappear if someone did not act, she drove to where she found the bus had already stopped to let a student off. She signaled the driver that she wanted to communicate and he reopened the door. She entered the area of the bus steps and asked for the student to return the property which was done. She thanked the driver and left.

While on the bus, Ms. Davis had noted that it seemed overcrowded with 4 or 5 children per seat and had poor air circulation. Concerned about those conditions, she again called Superintendent Cheeseman. This time he answered his phone, and she told him of her observations and also mentioned some complaints related to buses she had heard from parents, asking him to investigate those matters. In the course of that conversation, she mentioned how it was she happened to be on the bus to observe the conditions. Cheeseman never made any comment suggesting she broke any laws during that telephone conversation.

Afterward, Cheeseman contacted the sheriff’s department to suggest charging Ms. Davis with a misdemeanor of stopping a school bus. Ultimately, the sheriff’s office agreed to do so. Still, Cheeseman did not discuss any of that with Ms. Davis. She only found out about the misdemeanor charge when she got a call from a reporter the next Monday afternoon.

Some unknown person or persons anonymously leaked information about the pending charge to the local media, including the local television stations. In a discussion with a reporter, Cheeseman then told the reporter about a videotaping system on each bus and provided the reporter with the videotape of Ms. Davis on the bus. That video tape was later broadcast by the station.

While it is generally acknowledged that parents will from time to time approach a stopped bus or even flag down a moving bus to give a student something he needed in school but had forgotten, there appear to be no incidents in the past of anyone being charged with stopping a school bus in this county as a result of such actions. That raises a huge question as to why it was charged in this instance.

When the district attorney’s office became aware of the charge, they immediately dismissed it as they did not see any chance of getting a conviction based on the facts as alleged. The DA’s email indicated that someone had been pushing him to go after Ms. Davis, but he did not let his office be used.

So why have the citizens of Beaufort County been treated to this circus: was it because Ms. Davis has been asking uncomfortable financial questions of the school administration, for example?

RINO Hunter: As I am fixing to register for re-election, in December, to keep my constituents' hard fought county commissioner seat, I would like to have the help of the Beaufort County GOP, and all their self-defined leaders; however, it probably will not be necessary. I always govern as if I am my constituents - hard working taxpayers, living outside the box = and that is why I depend so much on Beaufort County's real Republicans, like Adam O'Neal, Hood Richardson, Steve Rader, Ray Leary, and so many more folks, too numerous to mention,

Because the Beaufort County GOP is infamous for mainly supporting RINOs, most times, of late, I innately understand that I must go it alone, but, I wish I do not to get elected here in my home county for so many decades.

Calling for the resignation of a corrupt Democrat politician who had just been caught with his hands in the cookie jar of abuse of power is one thing, but calling for the resignation of an elected official of your own party based on a hit job from the bureaucracy is another.

Befuddled: Garris calling for the resignation of Donald Sadler was a test....that's all I'll say. The whole Brabo controlled op was and is, in fact, a controlled op. You never forget someone who refuses the olive branch......Trump Strategy 101. It's my opinion that Brabo controls, by proxy, a majority of the Big 5 but that's another story.

Davisgate was an attempted hitjob by a contingency of the GOP who hates Trump Conservatism across the board. Kidwell and Garris don't have the brainpower to spearhead such an operation; they're near sighted opportunists that don't understand "The Art of The Deal".

I don't know enough about the O'Neal incident to comment on it.

Million Dollar question: Is the County Manager planning to install Brabo and those she may/may not control after Uncle Donnie's term runs out?

Brabo obviously doesn't like the terms:"Farrahkrats" and "Gestapo". The truth speaks for itself. Will any of this transpire or will I look like I'm batsh** crazy?

I'll bet a mark..

Keith has always struck me as a smart guy and he has a great voting record in Raleigh. It surprises me that Cheeseman could get away with using him this way.

I wonder if Superintendent Cheeseburger, a California liberal, is deliberately trying to cause division with the GOP to help liberals by stirring around in this stuff. While he perceives Davis to be a personal adversary within his own arena, why would he otherwise try to draw in other Republicans to cause further splits in the GOP that it does not need? His pulling Sheriff Hammonds into the issue personally has caused some of Hammonds primary voters to abandon him. In pulling in Kidwell and Garris, he has caused even deeper divisions. The Cheeseburger seems to have a very political agenda here and it is aimed straight at Republicans. They need to think twice before cooperating with any of his requests. Davis is a target, but so are much larger parts of the GOP.

Twice in recent times, Rep Kidwell and Chairwoman Garris have made the media calling for resignations of two diff local people.
They appear to have each others ear, much like a husband and wife who share so much together, they usually end up in agreement.

Its like the story about the tail wagging the dog.
What I'm curious about is this: Who is the tail and who is the dog? Is Rep Kidwell the tail or is Chairman Garris the tail???

Befuddled: Those are great questions. Considering how some don't do their homework, I be willing to "bet a mark" that Kidwell didn't call Miss Davis to get he skinny on what went down; his "people" skills are extremely lacking and he doesn't handle pressure well.

From my view, it would serve Miss Davis no purpose to contact Kidwell. He'd be made a bigger example of, in the public eye, if he fell on his own sword and continually drove it in deeper. Has he issued an apology for his diarrhea of the mouth?....he hasn't, to my knowledge.

What happened here was a botched hitjob, by the GOP, against a conservative lady who has put heat on the school board's ass......a very stupid and counterproductive move to the development of Trump-era Conservatism within the GOP.

Garris needs to resign or make a public apology to Miss Davis.... personally. If she doesn't handle this properly, her political ambitions may be short-lived if common sense voters put two and two together.

Kidwell ..same.

What I want to know is this: Before Keith Kidwell publicly announced that Stacey Davis should resign, did he (as a leader in NC) call her and ask for her side of the story?
Also, I would like to know if Stacey has taken it upon herself to contact Rep Kidwell and tell him her personal side of the story. In the spirit of Charlie Kirk, people should talk to each other.
I have found that far toooooooo many people make far tooooooo many assumptions.
