Trump to appoint conservative former Congressman Dan Bishop as US Atty in NC | Eastern NC Now

President Trump is appointing conservative former Congressman Dan Bishop to the position of United States Attorney (chief federal prosecutor) for the Middle District of North Carolina.  Bishop will take office as interim US Attorney pending confirmation by the US Senate.

Bishop was a stalwart conservative in the NC General Assembly in first the House and then the Senate.  As a legislator, he was the chief sponsor of HB2, the legislation that prohibited biological men using the womens' locker rooms and restrooms, and fought hard against its later repeal when Phil Berger and Tim Moore moved against it.  Bishop then moved up to Congress, where he has been a leading conservative voice in the state delegation and a stalwart member of the House Freedom Caucus.  He gave up his Congressional seat to run for state Attorney General in 2024.  In the Trump administration, he has been serving as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Bishop will be a strong voice for conservatism and common sense in this critical position.

Dan Bishop is a solid conservative and a fighter. I wish he had stuck to his original plan and run for Tillis' US Senate seat this year, instead of letting himself get talked into the Attorney General race by Phil Berger. Bishop would have been a far better candidate and a far better senator than Whatley. Unlike Whatley, Bishop would have likely whipped Cooper in the general election.
