Truth for our times | Eastern NC Now

This week’s writings revolve around a theme that has pressed itself upon my heart in fresh ways: the reality of God’s presence, the weight of His holiness, and the unmistakable truth that light and darkness do not exist in theory - but in battle. Each of the three articles I’m sharing touches this theme from a different angle.

The Grace and Gravity of God
In this first article, I reflect on the strange tension we often feel in our walk with God - how He can be both tender and stern, gentle and unyielding, a refuge and a refining fire. Like a wise father, He comforts us in our weakness and yet strengthens us through correction. Scripture calls us to “behold the goodness and severity of God,” and I explore what this means in the lived experience of faith.

Tucker Carlson, The Devil, and the Mob: When God Draws Near Darkness Pushes Back
The second article addresses the controversy surrounding Tucker Carlson - his ill-advised interview with Nick Fuentes, and his testimony of encountering a demonic presence. While many have joined the mob to condemn him, I urge believers to respond with discernment rather than destruction, truth rather than fury. The spiritual world is not a cartoonish notion, nor are the struggles of the soul matters for mockery. When God draws near to a person, opposition often follows swiftly in its wake.

Why I Believe Martin Luther Really Did Throw the Inkwell
The final article is a profoundly personal account from my own life - a night I once titled “The Night the Demon Visited.”  I have updated this article, which was written and first published in 2013. I’m sharing it again because it bears striking relevance to the current moment. In it, I recount an unforgettable encounter with a malicious spiritual being during a difficult season of ministry. That experience changed how I understand Martin Luther’s famous inkwell story - and even more, how I understand God’s sovereign protection over His servants.

Though these pieces differ in tone, together they bear witness to a truth we cannot afford to neglect: the God who loves us is also the God who disciplines us; the world we see is not the only world at work; and Christ remains Lord over every realm - seen and unseen.

Thank you, as always, for your prayers, your encouragement, and your steadfast companionship in these days when clarity, courage, and conviction are needed more than ever.

In Christ’s grace,
