EU pushes Biden-style War on Democracy while populist parties surge in polls | Eastern NC Now

The European Union is trying to do what Biden tried and failed to do in crushing democracy.  The main target is freedom of speech, the very freedom that makes democracy even possible.  They use terms like "hate speech" or "disinformation" to try to suppress communications that do not adhere to the government narrative.

President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Secretary of State Rubio have all been speaking out against this authoritarian drift in the EU.  So has Elon Musk, whose Twitter / X has been targeted for censorship by the EU.

The reaction of European voters has been to move toward the populist nationalist parties, the only ones still fully committed to democracy.  Recent polls have shown the populist right National Rally dominating the race for France's next president.  Polls in Poland show that three parties of the right committed to democratic rights are set to sweep to power in Poland's election.

Polls in Germany have been showing the populist nationalist right Alternativ fur Deutschland expanding its lead nationally, and polls in eastern German states are particularly showing strong AfD support.  The most recent is in the state of Thuringia, where the AfD has support of 39% of the voters with the traditional conservative, and weak on democracy CDU a distant second at 24%.

Across the channel in the UK, the populist nationalist pro-democracy Reform Party has had double digit leads for months.  It has just become the UK's largest party by dues paid members, as well, and has won more special elections for local government seats than any other party since the last national election.  It also won the most recent set of local elections in the UK.
