new lefty VA governor Spanberger makes Virginia a sanctuary state as first act | Eastern NC Now

will now release illegal alien criminals back into the community insread of turning them over to ICE

ENCNow

North Carolina now has a sanctuary state for criminal illegal aliens on our northern border thanks to new leftwing Democrat Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger.  As her first act, Spanberger revoked an existing executive order from GOP Governor Youngkin that had directed Virginia law enforcement agencies to honor ICE detainers on illegal aliens who commit crimes and to cooperate with ICE.  Spenberger's new executive order prohibits that.  Illegal aliens who commit crimes will now just be released back into the community. That includes members of dangerous illegal alien crime gangs like MS13 and Tren de Aragua.

Meanwhile, with the threat of a GOP governor's veto gone, Democrats in Virginia's legislature are taking aim at gun rights and the Second Amendment.

Victims of illegal alien criminals who have been harmed by those released by sanctuary states should be able to sue whatever official released them for their damages. Constitutionally, I do not believe they could sue the state of Virginia, but I wonder if we could pass a law in North Carolina that would allow them to sue a local official like a sheriff who released an illegal alien criminal instead of honoring the iCE detainer in a North Carolina court? That might get the attention of these sanctuary sheriffs.
