Creative new term limits bill introduced by Congressman Chip Roy with 12 year limit | Eastern NC Now

Conservative Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas) has introduced a creative new way to implement term limits.  Roy's Statutory Term Limits on Congressional Pay and Power Act, gets around the need for a Constitutional Amendment by limiting pay and power after 12 years in Congress.

The statutory approach would not be able to limit their being reelected and serving in Congress, because it would take a Constitutional amendment to do that.  Instead, all pay would stop after 12 years (6 terms in the House or 2 in the Senate) and if they were elected after that, they would be unpaid volunteers.   They would also be ineligible to serve in leadership positions, including committee chairmanships after 12 years.
