SCOTUS gives US citizenship to babies of Chinese birth tourists and illegal aliens | Eastern NC Now

In a horrible move, a 5 to 4 decision of the US Supreme Court has awarded "birthright" citizenship upon children of Chinese "birth tourists" and illegal aliens.  They have upended the clearly stated intend of the authors of the 14th amendment by misinterpreting it to grant automatic citizenship to anyone who happens to be born on US soil.

Most developed countries in the world base citizenship on the nationality of the parents, not where the child happens to be born.  In some cases, that nationality can even go back generations.  One of the last European countries to have birthright citizenship was Ireland, but because that was being abused by illegal aliens, they held a national referendum and repealed birthright citizenship in a landslide.

So who were the deplorable 5?  It is easy to guess that three of them were the three leftwing Democrat appointees, who are pretty consistent in their anti-American rulings, and that guess would be accurate.  John Roberts, who has long shown himself to be a weakling and a s weasel would be another good guess, and that also would be correct.  Wrongway Roberts even wrote the opinion.

The final vote is a Trump appointee who has become a major disappointment, Amy Comey Barrett.  Some conservatives are now denouncing her as a DEI hire.  This is not her first rodeo in veering off to the left.  The first major one was on free speech issues, where she sided with the censorship prone left, but she has kept it up on other things, too, the most recent being birthright citizenship.

Meanwhile, the US Justice Department has announced a crackdown on birth tourism, and they will be working to prosecute those involved in that racket.

In Congress, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) introduced a bill to amend the Constitution to end birthright citizenship.  His bill is word-for-word identical to a similar bill once introduced by Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada)
