Are American public schools destroying what made America great? | Eastern NC Now

On July 4th, our country's 250th birthday, The Federalist published a thought provoking article from a longtime public school teacher entitled "America's anti-American Public Schools are Destroying What the Declaration Gave Us.".  While issues like "wokeness" in the curriculum might be the obvious problem to many, the author goes deeper and faults the fact that education today is so undemanding of students.  The goal seems to be more to get them through the process as easily as possible to get a diploma rather than a process that demanding excellence and actual learning.  It is a telling expose of where our education system is failing out students from someone who has been there to evaluate what is happening.

The Beaufort County School Board recently took a step that should be helpful in taking away a major distraction for students by requiring that all cell phones be placed in lockers during instructional time.  There is a lot more that can and should be done to restore rigorous standards to our education process.
