GOP Senate Committee backed establishment in primaries, but not conservative in general | Eastern NC Now

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is the official campaign arm of the Republican caucus in the US Senate.  It is largely under the thumb of that chamber's GOP senate leader.  Under Mitch McConnell, it got a reputation of backing McConnell's establishment buddies in the primaries, but when they got beat by conservatives, refusing to help the conservative in the general election against the Democrat.

Now, with the first election held under John Thune's leadership, it appears up to its old tricks.  It gave its endorsement and financial support in GOP primaries this year to establishment moderates John Cornyn in Texas and Bill Cassidy in Louisiana.  Now, with conservative GOP US Senate candidate Ken Paxton in a competitive race for the general election in Texas, the NRSC is refusing to help him.  Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) has called the NRSC on the carpet over their failure to help fund Paxton, and asked President Trump for financial assistance for Paxton to make up for it.  Paxton currently serves as Texas Attorney General, where he has an excellent record.

Conservative contributors interested in keeping a conservative senate have a better option to the NRSC.  It is the Senate Conservatives Fund and it channels funding to all the conservative US Senate candidates.  Ken Paxton's race is one of its target races.
