Thomas Howell Peele, known to his friends and family simply as Thomas, passed away on September 11, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born on November 14, 1950.

A lifelong Eastern North Carolina resident, Thomas lived in Washington, Bath, and Williamston, and attended high school in Plymouth, North Carolina. He became well known throughout the region through his love of music and his extraordinary talent as a drummer.

Thomas was a member of the popular band The Patriots, performing for approximately 60 years. Music was far more than an occupation or pastime for Thomas-it was a lifelong passion. An excellent drummer and devoted music lover, he shared his talent with audiences throughout Eastern North Carolina for generations. He also spent years working as a radio DJ, where his love for music continued to be an important part of his life. He had a particular appreciation for Classic Soul as well as the popular music of his time.

Those who knew Thomas will remember him for much more than his musical ability. He was fun-loving, personable, and someone who enjoyed life. He loved being on the water and boating, enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid NC State fan who especially enjoyed watching-and attending-Wolfpack football games.

Thomas shared his life with his partner Jenny Lucas Mastin; his children Brittony Woolard (Wayne) and Nicholas Peele (Hannah), and the loves of his life...his grandchildren, Presley and Hobie Peele, and Wright Woolard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Elizabeth Peele and Joseph Peele, and his brother, David Bray Peele. He is survived by his sister Susan Crofton (Kevin).

Thomas leaves behind a lifetime of music, memories, friendships, and stories shared with the many people whose lives he touched. For six decades, his drumming helped provide the soundtrack to countless gatherings, dances, celebrations, and good times across Eastern North Carolina. His friends and fellow musicians will remember not only the music he made, but the fun, friendship, and personality he brought with him wherever he went.

Thomas will be deeply missed by Jenny, his family, his many friends, fellow musicians, and the countless people who had the pleasure of hearing him play.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Peele family.
