I have made no secret of my belief that the Economic Development Commission (EDC) has been incompetent and amateurish in its approach to economic development. It would have been impossible for the EDC to have failed more miserably or over a broader range of issues.

The Beaufort County Commissioners met in closed session today to decide the future of the ill-fated Quick Start II, "shell building", resting on 6 acres in Beaufort County's Industrial Park.

The Quick Start II building is now offered for sale at $1.5 million. This is $900,000 beneath its construction cost and the loss must be increased to include financing, maintenance and depreciation of the structure due to age.

Beaufort County Commissioners met with the Beaufort County Community College way in advance of the 2013 / 2014 budget about possible state budget cuts, but that is not the story from today's meeting.

Add to that a little over five thousand more for an engineering firm to evaluate the maintenance required on this facility that is designed to bring unending prosperity to the area and we are looking at a little over $20,000 of what some folks would call "wasted money".
