Outstanding pictures Dave. Quite vivid, amazing colors, tells a story without words. Truly "kick-ass."

I'll work on some later tonight.

Good work Leslie on exposing a very real truth.

It does appear, as espoused by Ms. Vasquez, that the UHS Coalition / agents have operated under a consuming veil of confusion. Sadly, that sense of confusion has been of their own making.

For everyone who may be confused as to whether the county commissioners have any measure of a strong negotiating position, please be aware that it is quite limited - thanks to the most willful elements within the UHS Coalition / agents. With all past and potential bidders literally chased off by these aforementioned UHS agents, the only potential tool within the commissioners' tool box is the threat of outright rejection of the UHS offer, and seeking a third-party management team tasked with straightening out the mess made by past management.

This is not a position of advantage.

The consistent policy of the Washington Daily News is that they have no true policy. They have a policy for their friends, and a policy for people like me and Hood. The one constant is that it is ever changing for them to gain advantage for those that they advocate for - hence Delma's phrase of "Advocacy Journalism."
This is definitely the ugliest period that I have witnessed in my tenure as a commissioner is Beaufort County. It smells to the high heavens, reaks it does.

Boom. This article is a home run, and cuts to the heart of the Realtor monopoly of the real estate business, and the public's perception of such. As you well know, I have always stood for ethical behavior in all people, but excessive contracting of the behavior patterns of the public will never completely protect individuals from each other, or Realtors from the rest of us.
Realtors need to do more than give lip service to ethics, and the public's better behavior patterns through more elaborate contracting. They need to learn to live within the bounds of common sense - if that is even possible.
It is sad that they are such an easy target, but if they are determined to act as group, it is reasonable that they will be tagged as a group, when they have been so wrong on so many issues.

You read my mind, Clifton. It may well be story that just keeps on giving. A hint to where I will initially take this continuing issue can be derived from the quote from the Editor of the Greenville Daily Reflector, Al Clark, "We don't have that type of policy. Policy tends to paint you in a corner."
I learned the meaning of Mr Clark's wise words long time ago if one does not adhere to their own policy. And with the WDN, not sticking with their own policy has become systemic.

I have no crystal ball, and therefore I can not say what health care will be like in this area. I will say that this whole nonprofit versus profit carries little weight with me.
I see the financial condition of the state of North Carolina, and I also realize how structurally damaged the state government is, the extent that their policies will have to be remedied, and I just do not see the much larger benefit of being a state sponsored nonprofit.
If this all turns south for the state, as I think it could, one might wonder why we did not see all this coming.
My final analysis is: the 61,000,000.00 difference between the bids is just way too much.

I will pass this question along, exactly as you posed it, when we meet with CHS. It's a good question and deserves an answer.

Brandia, This article, along with what is being written in the Beaufort Observer, are the most informative and truth oriented articles written on the BRHS post bid process; however, your mentioning of the $60,415,401 difference in the bids between CHS and UHS may have little impact on the people singing from the same script that call me. Their scripted message is, "the money doesn't matter." I have to wonder: If we treated all Beaufort County assets as frivolously as they would have us treat the medical complex, and then made decisions on all issues based on their diatribe that "money doesn't matter," would they be able to stand the 1.50 per 100.00 tax rate, which would surely be their taxable fate on their real property? I believe that may still be the limit that North Carolina's government will let local county governments impose upon the citizens.
This is a very real scenario when math no longer matters in performing the county's business.

It has long been the position of BCN that the Washington Daily News always stay in business, and may they continue in their position of taking the Liberal point of view and fashioning it into a position that will always appear as somewhat mainstream in message to those who have never understood the depth of managing the public's position.
Plus, the WDN is the perfect foil to expose the position of the collective special interest (which interestingly crosses political party lines) that has long ruled Washington, NC, and at one time all of Beaufort County.
Yes, we wish the WDN a long life, and we will always provide a position that will always be well considered, and often, vectored 180 degrees from their point of view.

It is wonderful to see a young man, like Cameron, set his sights on something (politics) where he believes he can make a contribution to society, and eventually earn his success.
Like those folks in New Hampshire that contributed to your candidacy, I believe in you too. You are the proverbial "local boy done good."
I thank you now, and I pray I can thank-you again later for your service to our America.

Thank-you Brandy for writing such a succinct article on this component of how the special interest game is played here in Washington.

As you know, I hold out hope for everyone - that they may gain some measure of wisdom as they walk through this life - but around here it is always about the rich gaining their version of welfare on the backs of the taxpayers. Giving away this hospital to appease the doctors, many of whom idly stood by, as management ran this taxpayer owned facility in the ground is unconscionable.

How convenient that Jerry Evans, and some Realtors come riding to the rescue. I say some Realtors because I hear some may feel that the way this was handled was very exclusive. Let's see if any Realtors will grow a backbone and come forward on this issue. We offer all the space you may need here at BCN to express yourselves, regardless which position you may take, and at 43,000 hits a day in October, you will be read.

You may consider this a challenge.

To our growing readership,

The best tried and true rule to dealing with complex issues, of a public nature, is "when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." Me thinks the Doctor had best stop digging.

The probable merger of the county hospital is a complex issue, and it will be brought to resolution. Making an argument out of something he might of heard that I could have said about my being 'SHOCKED' about signing some lame pledge is pure conjecture, and makes the Doctor appear somewhat disingenuous.

from the Publisher: Mighty strong words from Mr. Hickman; however, the real question is: When will motivated and dedicated Democrats stand up for their elected leaders, their belief system and refute these strong words? Please Consider this a challenge to stand tall for what you believe in and use this platform, Beaufort County Now, to present your case. At BCN, we appreciate all sides of every issue, because only through discussion and interaction can we arrive at some point of persuasion.

That Beau Friedlander article was most interesting in that it said more about its author than it does its subject - Glenn Beck.

I have always wanted to think the best about folks, but as I grow more mature, I find those that are the most mistrusting are usually the most dishonest. Mr. Friedlander's own conscience may be a rather dark cupboard indeed, and therefore he projects his own guilt upon Mr. Beck.

I wish it wasn't so, but generally, that's the way it works.

Hello Sandy, It's been a long time, a long time indeed. I appreciate your patronage of BCN. I hope you return, and ask Susan and Patricia to visit us a bit. Brandia Lynn, who wrote this piece on the neighborhood where she partly grew up, is my oldest daughter.

Thank-you Diane for your insightful opinion piece on one of the ugliest, and most virile afflictions to ever besiege mankind - racism. This is such a serious issue that it saddens me greatly that there are those, who have diluted its harsh reality by their disingenuousness use of the word.

Clifton, I don't mean to be a paranoid alarmist, but this exclusion thing is very similar to what Hood and I experienced in our early days as commissioners, when we were blackballed by certain groups. We were even thrown out of the Republican Party under the Hope VanDorp administration.

Clifton, Thank-you for voicing your opininon built on your years as a truck driver. There is one piece of this article, written by Brandia, that was under-reported: The DOT is willing to purchase the land from the county at the Industrial Park South. To date, we have not recieved an offer.

Diane, You are well versed in removing the mysteries of bad governing within, especially, the federal government. Many folks, some of them very well educated, just can never get a grip on what our Founding Fathers intended for the two levels of government - state and federal.

Clifton, You would be surprised as to what extent this issue stokes the fires of political passions within liberals. Search my name on the internet on this issue, and a whole new group of lies are created about my person. What a way to defend an argument - to lie.

From my business experience with the trucking business, there is no doubt the State will use their highway bureaucrats to drain the truckers and their business of whatever that is left after cost of fuel, maintenance in a bad economy. Maybe truckers should hope for some "change you can believe in."

Clifton, I have never seen the economic advantage of having a rest area just outside of one's county's only two exits, where the weary traveler may get off the road, catch a bite, and relieve themselves. But, the state government always knows what's best for us. Right?
