CV - Yes. I've had the same experience, and you are right. It is worse today. For one thing it is much more likely to be violent today. Cancel culture is very totalitarian in nature.

Trump's record in governing beats the pants off of the pathetic and dictatorial Biden regime. And WOKE is who has the actual record of "burning it all down".
As to undergraduate universities, when I was studying at one in the 1970s, there were lots of left-liberal professors who wore it on their sleave but darn few conservatives, and the few that were conservative rarely said anything to show it openly in class. From students I have talked to, it is much, much worse today. More balance is desperately needed in universities.

No. They can't be saved without MAJOR reforms. The present-day oversight and administration (smart people?) are clearly not up to the task. The university system has been a big part of my life. It's hard watching the ugly demise of this institution.

The current universities are a woke joke. What is needed is a new type of diversity - viewpoint diversity. What is needed on every key faculty is that there be at least one third of the faculty members right of center and one third left of center. Where they are out of balance now, as all of them are, impose affirmative action to bring the numbers of the underrepresented viewpoint to at least a third. Steps should also be taken to insure that there is not viewpoint discrimination on admissions.
The recent rise of the pro-Hamas new Hitler Youth on college campuses is a big wake up call for change.
