Valid questions. And if they're asked, i'm sure there will be an answer.I might not even agree with the answer. My point is that the way Mr Richardson conducts himself doesn't get to that answer.Because he turns everyone off, including people like me who might otherwise be natural allies.

The Republican National Senatorial Committee has a long record of supporting RINOs in primaries. I would NEVER contribute a nickel to the NRSC as a result. We should give directly to conservative candidates instead. This election cycle, we will get to replace Cornyn and Cassidy with solid conservatives. Hopefully we can replace Lindsay Graham as well.

Trump's endorsements are hit and miss. He did the right thing in Louisiana, but endorsed RINOs for senate races in NC adn SC. He has stayed out of Texas' primary.

It looks like no matter how badly a city manager screws up one place, some other city will still hire him. With this dude's record, he ought to be unemployable as a city manager. I would like to know the inside story on how we are now stuck with this arrogant bureaucrat..

Tyre is still mad about the last election and wants this city council to fail. It is clear where he is coming from. But what about the others?

Given Washington's tax and spend problem, there should have been one key element of background and experience sought in a new city manager, someone with a track record of cleaning up government waste, cutting unnecessary spending, and cutting taxes. That clearly was not done to get someone like this character, who has an open distain for transparency and the publics right to know.

So, it took a year for the Executive Committee formed in the 2025 county convention to find out that the mysterious Victory Committee is composed of Paul Varcoe, Ashley Woolard, Keith Kidwell, Steve Rader, and Carolyn Garris with Greg Dority as a consultant.
Hum, three questions:
1) Why wasn't the Vice Chair brought in? That is an ex-officio member position for all committees.
2) What were those items authorized by the Victory Committee? Advice and consent is a function of the overall Executive Committee.
3) When, if ever, will the sub-committee report their activities to the elected Executive Committee?

Yeah, this is about as transparent as mud.

Keith Kidwell specifically stated they were not there, and it was also said that Greg Dority sometimes adviced. So it was disclosed at the last meeting.

There were two not present. Paul Varcoe and Ashley Woolard. Steve Radar, Carolyn Garris, and Keith Kidwell. I know because I asked who the missing members were.

In contrast to the City of Washington's hustle to bring forth a new city manager, Beaufort County's Government has also tentatively selected a new county manager, and it is my understanding that the prospective county manager candidate has agreed to the negotiated terms offered by a consensus of the Beaufort County Commissioners

The actual public reveal of said candidate, and probable finalizing vote in the affirmative of that selection will be accomplished at a future public meeting, where all will be publicly divulged, and a public vote taken in hopes of a successful conclusion of a process that will take over 8 months to conclude from start to finish.

I've been asking people I know on the Executive Committee about that disclosure of Victory Committee members at the last meeting at a residence. They all said that when the sub-committee was brought up, the Chair did ask the Victory Committee members to stand. My sources said that in the crowded residence they could see some and could not identify others. When exec. committee members asked about clarification of some that were not there, no response followed. I'm told that Mr. Hickman complained about the lack of transparency and then there was a discussion that wandered away from anything pertinent.

To put this all in perspective, that meeting was in March 2026. This Executive Committee was formed from the Beaufort County Republican Convention of 2025. It has been a year, and this committee is still not sure about who is on the Victory Committee and what they have improperly authorized. I'm not even sure the Executive Committee before the 2025 convention knew.

There is plenty of spinning going on, but it is clear to me that this is not a healthy Republican Party Executive Committee. People are going to great lengths to keep things hidden over extended time periods.

Here we go again. My name is out there. Those of you who are lying are doing it in secret. You will not be held accountable by the public for your deception.

The Conservative Club has never wanted to be associated with the Republican Party because of what is going on now. Several Chairmen of the Beaufort County Republican Party have tried to have the State Republican Party shut us down during the past 20 years. They cannot do it because we have deliberately not affiliated with the Republican party.

We are free to speak the truth.

You are lying about my being uncivil. Your definition of uncivil is any disagreement with you warped socialist thinking. The disruptions are caused by he you and Queen Garris when your world stops turning because I have anything to say.

Another lie. A list of members of the secret Victory Committee has never been given tome or the Executive Committee. This Executive Committee never appointed the Victory Committee. This isa serious violation

NC Statutes & Public Action Requirements:

Appointment Power [NCGS § 160A-147]: The council has the sole authority to appoint, suspend, or remove the city manager. The appointment must be done in a public meeting.

Public Record of Employment: While the manager’s performance evaluations are confidential, the employment contract, salary, and termination are public information, typically handled through official council minutes and public personnel records.

Manager Powers [NCGS § 160A-148]: Once appointed, the manager is responsible for hiring/firing other city staff, while the council focuses on hiring and managing the manager.

Public Meetings Law: Final votes to hire, fire, or approve contracts for the city manager must take place in open sessions, though preliminary discussions regarding candidates are often held in closed session.

JohnSS,
According to the Facebook posted by Joe Davis and the letter he cited from Mayor Ellen Brabo, Jonathan N. Rorie has already officially been hired.
Color me puzzled that she had to "announce" this decision to a voting member.

re: Washington being broken — you asked why Washington's government isn't the topic of every conversation every day. Honestly? Because people are tired. Tired of showing up, tired of being ignored, tired of watching the same cycle repeat itself. But I'll tell you what wakes people back up — moments exactly like this one. A rushed hire, a humiliated public servant, a police chief vacancy held open like a chess piece, and two council members who apparently believe accountability only flows downward. Washington isn't broken beyond repair. But it will be if Monday's vote goes through unchallenged and nobody says a word.

ThinkingItThroughNC — I respect the instinct to be fair, I do. But at some point "let's hear both sides" becomes a shield for people who are counting on the public's reasonableness to run out the clock. The vote is Monday I thought? Perreault and Tyre have had months to address the Roberson situation publicly and they have said exactly nothing to fire him. That silence IS their response. Waiting for an accounting that these two have shown zero intention of giving is how this kind of thing gets waved through while good people are still deliberating.

I saw this on Joe Davis's Facebook page. He wrote what you see below:

"Just received this email:
Good morning,
We are excited to share an important update with you all. The City of Washington has officially hired a new City Manager, Jonathan N. Rorie, MPA, who will begin his role on Monday, April 13."

The email was signed by Ellen Brabo. My question is...did this guy get hired without a meeting and vote at which JoeDavis would have been present???? Inquiring minds want to know.

The Conservative Club is not a recognized affiliate organization of the Republican National Committee or State Party; therefore, it does not have standing within the party structure. The State Plan of Organization and the Beaufort County GOP Plan of Organization grant the Chairman the discretion to call meetings.

Beaufort County has already been a victim of this Democrat infiltration. We have two Democrat plants on our county commission who align with the two out of the closet Democrats to run out county commission. We now have a former Marc Basnight Democrat as our "Republican" State House nominee. We have at least one Democrat plant on our school board, with another one just nominated who has been an active Democrat most of the time she has been in the county but now claims to be a "Republican".

In this year's county commission race, only two of the nominees have long histories as bona fide Republicans, Stan Deatherage and Ashley Woolard. They have different styles, different internal party alliances, and some different priorities, but both are bona fide Republicans. The thrid, John Edwards, is a bit of a question amrk.

And you would have been there too ... but you can't be civil so no business can be conducted due to the disruptions you repeatedly cause. You also endorsed non-Republican candidates in a race with other Republicans which unless you are totally oblivious (and you are quite astute so I don't believe this to be the case) violates the state rules and is grounds for automatic resignation from the Executive Committee. You continue to act like a woke Democrat that wants to play the victim. You are not a victim sir.

What Washington needed as a city manager was someone with a sharp pencil able to cut through all the bloat and waste, cut spending, and cut taxes. We need someone with a good track record of doing just that. Instead, they give us a guy who is clearly a bureaucrat's bureaucrat. That is what Washington does NOT need. We have had way too much spending under the previous regime and a lousy city manager who was a big part of the problem.

Tyre was also a big part of the problem that got us in this mess, and any elected official who kisses his ass is absolutely worthless.

This is all so sickening.

Well now Mr Richardson, you are just flat out lying. I was in attendance when the victory committee members were announced. And so was your wife by the way. So unless she isn't telling you who they were, you're playing a game right now which doesn't surprise me.

To both Katrina and Regional Observer, the rules of operation called the Plan of Organization are not followed. Only those who fit the warped thinking of those who are dictators are allowed to speak. This is unbelievable in its self. The Victory Committee is secret. To date Queen Garris has not identified the members and they make all political decisions for the Republican Party in Beaufort County. There is no debate or discussion of issues. The convention of 2025 say what was happening. That is why they allowed volunteers to serve on the Executive Committee rather than those hand picked by Varcoe and Kidwell.

Just because you say is is so does not mean it is true. The last 5 years of Republican politics in Beaufort County have been a disaster because of candidates supported by the Republican-Democrat Socialists. Practices such as recruiting Democrats to vote in primary lections and using party money to go after your conservative enemies are corrupt.

Brabo.... Moved here five years ago. Bought a house in a residential neighborhood. Lied on her special permit application. Neighbors complain. She goes before the board under oath. Lies again. Lies upon lies upon lies build up. She's basically running a commercial business in the heart of a residential neighborhood. And now she plays the VICTIM of the problem she herself created. She's breaking the law every day she is open. She's a fraud, and a liar, and needs to resign. She is the only sitting mayor in the entire country suing their own city. Washington deserves better than this unhinged, unethical woman. She's a traitor to the city she serves.
