Conservative Voter: Steve Rader WAS involved in Representative Kidwell's first campaign, even requested that my SNI create a leading edge website, which we did at a most affordable price, while at the highest quality.

In my 32 years of Beaufort County GOP opinion, most of it as an elected public servant: Steve Rader should be consulted as a valuable resource by anyone, any group who wishes to make any real difference in attaining wise and prudent political direction to further a purposeful pathway, where The People are the constituents, and not the various ignoble splinter groups of the self-interested.

Continuing this stated truth, who would have ever believed that something as simple to understand as Party Disloyalty would be locally redefined so that those aforementioned textbook Disloyal Republicans could now feel safe to govern as, or with local Democrats, while still wearing the Republican cloak, the GOP brand that their betters built long before their self-interests could be satisfied, and made possible by the noble efforts of others long before them.

Too often, we have good conservatives who get elected to office and then let power go to their head, becoming part of the establishment. Until now, I have been extremely proud of our state representative Keith Kidwell, but these events make me wonder if he is starting to go off the reservation. I hope that he does not continue down that path as he has been one of the real breaths of fresh air in Raleigh. And, as I recall, Rader was heavily involved in Kidwell's first campaign.

You seem particularly ignorant of history, Bobbie, Prior to the War Between the States, free blacks in the South, which were about 20% of the black population, had more civil liberties than the free blacks in the north. The northern states mostly had very draconian Black Codes that were far more severe than the later Jim Crow laws. It is the north's Black Codes that are the real precussor or Jim Crow.

A very interesting example is Illinois, Lincoln's home state. As part of the Northwest Territory, it was governed by Thomas Jefferson's Northwest Ordinance that prohibited slavery, but when it became a state its Constitutiion and laws neither allowed nor prohibited slavery, and by 1850 there were quite a number of slaves being held in southern Illinois by farmers. The state government decided to do something about it, but instead of banning slavery, they passed a law banning all black people from living in Illinois. The state senator who sponsored that law became a Union general in the War Between the States and there is a statue of him in Washington, DC (hmm, BLM must not have figured that one out yet).

If one compares racial restrictions in the military, the Confederate Army was much more enlightened than the Union army. Minority soldiers were placed in segregated regiments in the Union army, while Confederate regiments were integrated. The Union army paid minority soldiers half the pay of white soldiers, while the Confederate army gave them full pay. The Union army did not allow minority soliders to serve as commissioned officers while the Confederate army did. The highest ranking minority to serve in the war was Confederate General Stand Watie, who was the commander of the last sizable Confederate force to surrender at the end of the war.

Studied, yes. Celebrated no. The confedercy lost the civil leaving Jim Crow as a legacy. We were all to young to be involved with slavery but each of us has profited from Jim Crow. We supported it. We looked they other way. I hold no malice towards anyone for I am not perfect. But I will not celebrate the idea that the content of a persons character is determined by their skin color.

Buzz, I don't think any of the potential GOP candidates for governor is a lawyer. Dale Folwell is a CPA. Mark Robinson worked in private business. Mark Walker is a pastor. Even Tillis worked in private business.

I was a big fan of Mark Robinson when he ran for his current office. He is a first rate orator and hit all the right conservative notes. He started off great on the education issues, but he stopped, not even attending state school board meetings for months. A governor's appointees are key to his success. They are what made Jim Martin a great governor and Pat McCrory a poor one. Robinson has a rather small staff as Lt. Governor but his appointments there have been less than impressive. Most importantly, Robinson was asleep at the switch when RINOs pushed major left wing legislation including the Obamacare Medicaid expansion and the NC Green New Deal through the legislature. A group of conservative energy experts actually met with Robinson on contesting the Green New Deal but Robinson refused to get involved. Dale Folwell, on the other hand has shown as State Treasurer that he knows how to properly staff government with competent conservatives and he knows how to use the levers of power to push conservative policy. Talk is great with Robinson but it is Folwell who shows he can actually push conservative policy successfully.

Republicans are almost certain to have a choice of two conservatives in the primary for Governor, Lt. Governor Mark Robinson and State Treasurer Dale Folwell. Robinson probably has better candidate skills but Folwell has much better governing skills. There are rumblings that RINO Senator Thom Tillis is also eying the primary for governor, as well as former Congressman Mark Walker.
