Comments for Our School Board should move to more choice in BCS--Revised and updated

Unfortunately those who should be leading this charge are the ones blocking it. Why?

Big Bob: First, it is a comment NOT a post; big difference.

Secondly, Leftist is a descriptor like none other in describing the politically /socially vapid, so I tend to use the word often when necessary.

how many times can Stan use ‘ leftist’ in a post? 4

No Big Bob: Once again your Leftist lack of awareness leads you to project against me what you yourself did; you cast a negative light upon the local teachers, not me.

When I have a problem with the local education industry, my actions will be targeted and specific in directed content, which I have not done.

Being a Leftist allows you what you believe to be a shallow audience of other Leftists caring about your undeveloped opinions; Eastern NC NOW is NOT as Leftist publication, so your shallow words ring hollow.

Big Bob: My suggestion to you is NOT to do it then.

It's always a little harder to talk smack about your friends and neighbors who work hard to educate our kids.

In the real world, the term "first rate" and "public school" rarely go together anymore, and that is the fault of the teachers unions and education establishment. What public schools were decades ago is gone with the wind and will never come back. School choice is as important as quality, and competition will make education better.

Big Bob: If you truly "think BC teachers are great," then don't act like the 'hit dog and yelp' when someone other than yourself takes the position that there are failing schools in America, they offering the bona fide solution toward correction; you believing that all negative inferences are toward local teachers.

Actions such as this reveals your Leftist stripes of being someone with something to hide, or worse, someone with an inability to reason a truth.

I think BC teachers are great. I think all kids deserve a first rate public school that educates everyone.

Big Bob: Do you think local teachers are substandard?

What have you got against local teachers being competent enough to compete in the evolving market of educating this American public?

Hoping the BC teachers you’re dissing remember at election time.

The public schools need competition.

People who pay taxes need relief from failing schools.

It is that simple when one considers School Choice.

MONEY IS AVAILABLE FOR UNDERSERVED STUDENTS.
The 2023 Appropriations Act Expands Eligibility for the Opportunity Scholarship Program
On October 3, 2023, the North Carolina State Budget (House Bill 259) became law. The new law authorizes several changes to the State’s Opportunity Scholarship Program, which will begin with the 2024-2025 school year.

Changes for the 2024-2025 school year include:

Removal of the income cap for families to receive the scholarship; now all North Carolina students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be eligible for the Scholarship regardless of income.
Prior public school enrollment is no longer a requirement for eligibility for the scholarship.
A student’s scholarship amount will be based on household income.
Scholarship amounts will range from approximately $3,000 to approximately $7,000.
The Opportunity Scholarship application for the 2024-2025 school year will open on February 1, 2024. Families must apply by March 1 to receive priority consideration

The private sector does darn near anything better than government, and that includes education. Private schools, on average, spend less per pupil than public schools but achieve much better education results. Those opportunities should be there for all students, not just children of the rich. The teachers union and much of the education establishment is injecting political indoctrination into public schools. A poll last year in North Carolina found that 71% of North Carolina parents are concerned about political indoctrination in the public schools. Competition makes everything better and that includes schools.

RE: Test Scores for Private Schools.
In accordance with G.S. 115C-549, 550 and G.S. 115C-557, 558, each private school must administer a nationally standardized test or other nationally standardized equivalent measurement selected by the chief administrator to all students enrolled and regularly attending grades 3, 6, 9, and 11 each year. The nationally standardized test or other equivalent measurement selected by the chief administrator must measure achievement in the areas of English grammar, reading, spelling and mathematics in grades 3 and 6. For grade 9, the nationally standardized test or other equivalent measurement selected must measure either (a) achievement in the areas of English grammar, reading, spelling, and mathematics or (b) competencies in the verbal and quantitative areas. The grade 11 test must measure competencies in the verbal and quantitative areas. Non-public school law also requires that the test results be kept on file at the school's office for one year....

The writer has lots of interesting ideas, but misses the point of vouchers. They take money from public schools that educate all children and send it to private schools that have tons of discriminatory admission policies. I want my tax dollars going to public schools that are accountable to everyone in the community, not just to private schools. Where are test scores for private schools? How do we know kids are learning anything at all?

We know that the Center - Left Coalition, a majority of Beaufort County Commissioners, do not support School Choice.

This article hits the nail on the head. It is the recipe for success.

Let us see how many School Board members in any county are willing to endorse it?
