"Every Picture Tells a Story ... Don't It:" An August Afternoon in Charleston, Part II | Eastern NC Now

Charleston's waterfront has always figured into history of this former colonial city, as it continues to do so today.

I believe this image is of the Meeting Street Inn, which is definitely on Meeting Street: Above. Just behind the Inn on Meeting Street is this Antebellum Neo Federal style home: Below.     images Stan Deatherage

Also located near the waterfront park on Metting Street is the Calhoun Mansion: Above.

The following words are those of the proprietors of this historic structure from their website, calhounmansion.net:

"Nothing else on the Charleston Peninsula compares to the Calhoun Mansion. Boasting a striking italianate design, the Calhoun Mansion, the largest residence in Charleston, has 35 rooms, a grand ballroom, japanese water gardens, 35 fireplaces, 75 foot high domed stairhall ceiling, khoi ponds, private elevator, three levels of piazzas, ornate chandeliers, a 90 foot cupola, and many more wonderful surprises that make up the house's more than 24,000 square feet."

Just across Meeting Street from the Meeting Street Inn is this lovely Neo Victorian style home with portico, porches and elaborate widow's watch: Below. all images by Stan Deatherage

That same frame house on Meeting Street, and I suppose I just got a bit carried away by that portico: Above and below.     images by Stan Deatherage

Just a very short distance west on Meeting Street, toward the business district, and across the street from the Calhoun Mansion, is this lovely Antebellum home that caught my fancy. Again, it's got to be the porticoes: Above and below.     images by Stan Deatherage
