The Positive and the Negative | Eastern North Carolina Now

Occasionally my friends inquire about my emotional well being, remarking that I may spend too much time dealing with both solvable and unsolvable problems. To some, who have a more docile nature, I concentrate on the sour side of society. Most of my political enemies, the Republicans In Name Only (RINO), socialists and those who are ignorant of the US Constitution, are sure I am the very Devil himself. I do not shrink from their accusations. Their harsh rhetoric is a measure of my effectiveness in combating their designs to take advantage of their fellow man.

I read an article by Alex Green, the Investment Director of the Oxford Club and Chairman of The Investment U. that made me realize we as humans live in two distinctly different worlds today. The article considers all seven billion of us collectively. Not some super rich place like Wall Street or poverty ridden Bangladesh. Alex Green's article points out how successful the human race is today compared with even 50 years age, to say nothing of several hundred years or even during Biblical times. He says until about 50 years ago an certainly 100 years ago we spent most of our time acquiring food, fearing disease, evading criminal actions and living much shorter lives. Today this Earth Planet has more people, more food, more medicine, better health, longer lives, and more freedom than ever before. I think Green is correct. We are living in the most prosperous times the human race has ever seen.

So, why are Americans so unhappy? I say Americans because the remaining world as a whole is more prosperous, with living conditions improving than ever. Unhappy may not be the best word to describe the American condition. Maybe "stressed" or "concerned" would be more descriptive. Not all Americans are unhappy or stressed or concerned. Those whose standard of living is rapidly improving are happy. That is about half of us.

Taking the United States as a whole the half of us whose living standard is rapidly improving is the half who do less work and produce the least. This is not unprecedented in history. However, it is unprecedented that the half of society that is less educated, has less wealth and is less productive is making remarkable economic progress while the upper crust is in decline. The Roman system of taxing conquered lands, the industrial revolution and all other technological advances though history produced wealth and improved living standards for all.. The rising tide of prosperity lifted all economic boats. The United State industrial revolution did the same thing.

Now, we come to the reason for our unhappiness, stress and concern. The American industrial revolution is dead, it is over. It ended in the 1980,s but the stake was driven through its heart with NAFTA and the various trade agreements that exported our industry and jobs to foreign countries. Do not be fooled by the few hot spots in industry we have remaining. Those are companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, Walmart, McDonalds, etc. This hand full of companies do not make a broad based movement. These are special situations within our declining manufacturing economy.

With the decline in our economy which was precipitated and accelerated by the banking and housing failures came a great social concern for those of us who saw our incomes and wealth fall almost to the poverty level. Declining incomes along with wealth destruction have created a national sympathy for those who have been harmed. Add the working poor and economically disadvantaged middle class, those who never worked and never intended to work has produces a majority who can now control government by electing those who are sympathetic socialists. This is the classical way socialism and /or communism has taken over governments all over the world. When more than 50 percent of the disadvantaged population can dictate how resources are used governments become socialist.

There are many forms of socialism. The classical definition requires the means of production to be owned and run by the government. American Socialism is different. We have become a nation regulated by laws and rules designed to control every aspect of the business community. We collect a variety of taxes and fees from all businesses. These moneys are used to provide benefits, and subsidies for both special interest corporations and individuals. This American Socialism allows citizens to believe they actually own property while they are enslaved to the state (includes federal and county governments) by having to collect and pay taxes and fees. Slowly but surely the Socialists have convinced the majority of the population of the need for welfare, child, farm and corporate subsidies,

The ultimate Socialist victory came with the Affordable Care Act or Obama Care. When the turncoat Republican, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts, voted to declare Obama Care a tax, he gave Socialism the greatest victory since 1917 when the communists took over Russia. Having Obama Care declared a tax provided incredible advantages to the Socialist movement in the United States. Without Obama Care being a tax an entirely new government department would have had to be created. If not a tax, the Supreme Court could have declared the law unconstitutional. The IRS enforcement structure was in place and did not have to be invented. The act is comprehensive providing hundreds of opportunities to create boards and commissions along with additions of taxing authority, the total destruction of privacy, confiscation of wealth, along with mandating an identification system that encompasses every citizen without exception. This is everything any dictator or Socialist would ever want.

Fifty percent of the public, the working and economically successful Americans, see the risk from Obama Care and government regulations to themselves, their property, and their children's future. They are staring socialism in the face. We can now use the final descriptive word that describes the American condition. We add "fear", along with "unhappy", "stressed" and "concerned". Americans are afraid of regulation, confiscation, high taxes and a rapidly evolving police state. Those who have accumulated wealth now realize it is virtually impossible to protect that wealth in the United States. They are considering foreign countries to which they can export their wealth. Many are considering abandoning their natural United States citizenship or having a dual citizenship. Fear also includes, fear from government spying on their personal lives.

Neither the Democrat nor Republican Parties are free from blame on these issues. There have been times in our history when the supposed conservative Republican president set into motion some really bad policy only to have it pirated by his Democrat successor and made into major policy.

President Herbert Hoover, a Keynesian started pumping money into the economy at the start of the Great Depression. Along came Franklin D. Roosevelt. He used Hoover's framework and created the New Deal. Never mind that financial panics before the 1929 depression had only lasted about two years. Roosevelt's experimental policies extended the depression another ten years. It only ended with the Second World War. Maybe justice was served with Herbert Hoover getting the blame for the Great Depression.

It was George W. Bush who started the spying on American citizens and foreign governments. This is a direct violation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Bush persuaded Congress to pass the Patriot Act, another unread comprehensive law. There is no question President Hussein Obama made major expansions under this unconstitutional law to the point that every American Citizen is spied upon.

The master plan of Obama care was invented by and installed by Mitt Romney while he was governor of Massachusetts. Along came Democrat Obama and made it bigger and more comprehensive.

These positives and negatives may be better described as the good, the bad and the ugly. They are notice to all citizens to be extremely careful who you vote for in the 2014 elections.. These elections will be one of our last opportunities to return our form of government to the original Constitution and push socialism back.
