City of Washington is upgrading its electric & water meters to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) | Eastern NC Now

Upgrade of meters to collect more data on we the people?

ENCNow

"The City of Washington is excited to embark on the Empower Washington Project. This project begins by upgrading its electric and water meters to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The Empower Washington Project is designed to improve service, reliability, and customer service."

When I read this "to improve service, reliability" I knew there had to be more they weren't telling us.  I did a little more digging on these meters.  Seems they can collect data on users every 15 minutes to hour.  They also can be cut on or off remotely.  How will the data be used beside what they claim for efficiency and better service?  Why the need for so much data collection?  I have to wonder how these meters will be used to control we the people.  Also wondering how the new meters will affect our bills which are going up and up no matter how much we cut back on usage.  Seems there is a lot the "government" isn't telling us.

yes, Washingtonian, I did run into Councilman Davis a couple of weeks ago and mentioned the issue to him. He did have some interest, but I think it would take more people expressing concern about the dumb "smart meters" to get him to take any action.

Raymond Silverthorn, a homeless man of Washington was pushing his shopping cart along west 5th street approaching Hog Heaven when he was struck from behind & killed. I saw him just before he crossed the CherryRun Creek bridge and he was snug up against the curb. Perhaps if the damn speed limit was lower than 50mph along this very congested stretch of road (inside the city limits), the driver would have been able to see the man before hitting him. Headlights shine a great distance. Everyone knows if the limit is 50 it means u can go 59 and still avoid a ticket...so how fast do u think people are willing to speed? As one comes across Cherry Run Creek bridge, one can see up ahead much congestion and even a traffic light, but the DOT has a sign by PC Sound that tells everyone to feel free to go 50mph. Anyone traveling 50mph there under these conditions, are exceeding a safe speed. U could be charged w reckless driving. Make it make sense! SLOW IT DOWN. Drop the limit to 40.

PK, Seriously, I'm asking...has anyone called the various City Council members and requested their assistance in stopping the installation of thos smart meters?
How do they reply? Call all of them if you want a quick lesson in, double speak, side-stepping, and obfuscating. U will learn a lot about your govt.

WHO approved it originally???
Maybe the WOKE Planning Dept?

Washingtonian: MAGA (Make America Great Again) has been trashed by the Word Police of the Left, and while I don't go by any political labels other than Conservative, I embrace Donald Trump as the very best president we could have at this time ... These very difficult times.

Hey JV. you can call me MAGA everyday of th week, & 3 times a day. Seems like a compliment to me. What is being Maga? I'm pretty informed on th Trump Presidency & so I would say Maga simply means a movement to Make America Great Again, using th strategies of Trump. I dont know of any Conservative Republicans who would deny being MAGA, based on the facts of its purpose & NOT on th smears th left try to paint.

If I could give some advice to folks just learning the ways of the world, it would be dont believe everything a person with a "title" tells you. People like that are probably the biggest liars, having practiced th art longer than most.

Hassan Piker said he was fed-up w th wealthy elites not being held accountable for their crimes. Probably 95% would agree. Its turning them to Socialism. The solution is to stop th inequality regarding the elites vs th peons. Sadly its worse locally.

JV, Muslims bank w China, Russia, & every single Muslim country. AND...They want U DEAD!!

SD: I agree. The local GOP should have stayed out of the Washington municipal elections. The trouble is that it is even worse than that. It appears the Executive Committee had very little to do with any of it even though the weight of the Party was presented to the public as being behind it.

The people that have been having their way with the local GOP, at least since the 2019 County Convention, had their feathers ruffled at the 2025 Convention when delegates successfully fought for a return to grassroots inclusion on the Executive Committee. The response from the power mongers was to further castrate the Executive Committee and let the unaccountable and shadowy Victory Committee take over the real work while being accountable to no one. It is Victory Committee fingerprints all over the Washington municipal elections.

There are people on the Executive Committee that know better and tried to do better. They were bitterly opposed by the power mongers. It seems a slight majority of the Executive Committee is made up of those that are fine with corruption and some that are too dim witted to know the difference.

A healthy, functioning Executive Committee would not have made the mess in the Washington municipal elections that was made this time around. This is what you get when schemers, egomaniacs, clowns and weaklings run an organization.

Washingtonian: We would all been better off in Washington, with the election of their officials, if the Local GOP had kept their sophistic hands out of that election, where there was a so-called conservative majority, albeit abjectly slim.

In local politics, there has always been a 'a ROT locally,' but blaming the good Conservatives that endeavor to do right by their constituents, will not solve the issue that it will take a real conservative majority to make the necessary changes to dispose of the 'rot,' and for that to occur, it will take this local electorate to pay close attention the candidates, and elect who is real, who is proven.
