Kathleen Mann White, 63, of Ridgewood Manor and Winterville, died Saturday, February 22nd after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Sherril Brooks White of their home in Winterville; a brother, Lex Mann and wife, Karen; sister, Sallie Scales and husband Fred, all of Washington, and a sister, Caroline Mann of Portland, Oregon. Also surviving are her niece, Kendall Scales of Atlanta, Georgia and nephew, Alex Mann of Norfolk, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen and her parents.

Kathy was born in Washington, NC to parents, C.A. (Ace) Mann and Sally Ann Elliott Mann. She attended Washington City Schools and graduated as an education major and loyal pirate fan, from East Carolina University. Kathy taught for seventeen years in the Craven County Schools and substituted as long as her health would allow, in the Pitt County Schools. She loved her kindergarten children, bringing their individual pictures home to Washington at every occasion to share stories about them. One of her greatest joys was to help them make unique crafts to take home to their families as gifts on holidays. For many years, Kathy volunteered during the Christmas season as a gift wrapper for the Humane Society kiosk at Pitt Plaza. Her love of animals began at an early age with childhood pets of dogs, ducks, cats, a horse, and chickens she hatched in an incubator. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Bud.

As a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Greenville, Kathy was an active participant and staff member at Cursillo before returning to Washington and St. Peter's, her hometown church.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2:00p.m. in Brown Chapel at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Washington, NC officiated by the Rev. Kevin Johnson, with interment following in the Chapel Garden. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Trinity Center Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 380 Salter Path, NC 28575 or the charity of one's choice.

The family is extremely grateful for the care that Kathy has received from Dr. Robert Frere, Dr. Jessica Triche, Ascera Hospce Care, and the entire staff of Ridgewood Manor.
