    Ms. Betty Lou Rouse Hassell, age 72, a resident of 4624 First Street, Grimesland, NC, died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC.

    A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m.Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Dr. Skipper McLawhorn.

    Ms. Hassell was born in Lenoir County on December 22, 1941 to the late Jack Rouse and Annie Holloman Rouse.

    Ms. Hassell is survived by two daughters, Wanda M. Smith and special friend Richard of Greenville, NC and Teresa Strickland and husband Dan of Grimesland, NC, one brother, Wilbur Rouse and wife Jean of Vanceboro, NC, two sisters, Dora McLawhorn and husband Ray of Grimesland, NC and Nellie McLawhorn of Ayden, NC and three grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Danielle "Sweet Meat" Strickland and Kari Grace Strickland.

    In addition to her parents, Ms. Hassell is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

    The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 1, 2014, at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
