    Mrs. Dolores "Lorene" Peele Smith, age 88, a resident of 910 Bonner St., Washington, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at her home.

    Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Derik Davis.

    Mrs. Smith was born in Beaufort County on May 6, 1925 to the late Daniel and Rosa Swanner Peele. On December 15, 1940 she married Deward Hoakard Smith who survives. She was a homemaker and help mate for her husband. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Washington.

    Survivors include her husband, Deward H. Smith of the home, two sons, Dennis H. Smith and Erma of Washington, Deward Braxton Smith and wife LeAnne of Chocowinity, one daughter, Dolores Ann "Susie" Wood and husband Odle of New Bern, one brother, Alvin "Buddy" Peele and wife Peggy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two grandchildren, Steven M. Wood and wife, Rachael of Washington, Ryan Smith of Greenville and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David Steven Smith, one brother, Leroy Peele, one sister, Elsie Peele Pearson, and one grandson, Michael Smith Wood.

    The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Oakdale Cemetery.
